Bislig City will have athletes at Batang Pinoy 2026, the national youth games organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), and the city council wants the provincial government to help pay for the trip.
In Resolution No. 2026-823, adopted on October 20, 2026, during the 66th regular session of the Tenth Sangguniang Panlungsod, the council requested P200,000 in financial assistance from the Office of the Provincial Governor, through Governor Johnny T. Pimentel, "to support the participation of the Bislig City Delegation in the Batang Pinoy 2026, to be held in Bacolod City." The resolution was authored by Councilor Paul E. Vicencio and is published on the city government's website.
What the money would cover
The resolution says joining Batang Pinoy "entails expenses for transportation, food, accommodation, uniforms, sports equipment, and other necessary logistical requirements of the delegation."
The P200,000 is meant to "augment the funds needed" for the delegation's preparation and participation. It is a request, not a grant yet. The provincial government still has to act on it.
The resolution does not say how many athletes, coaches or sports Bislig will send. It describes the competition as a chance for young athletes "to showcase their athletic abilities, develop their sportsmanship, and compete at the national level," and says it will "bring pride and recognition to the City of Bislig."
When and where Batang Pinoy happens
Batang Pinoy 2026 is scheduled for December 12 to 18, 2026, in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. PSC chairman John Patrick "Pato" Gregorio confirmed the schedule at a Philippine Sportswriters Association forum in Manila on June 23, 2026, according to Negros Now Daily.
Reported details from that briefing:
- More than 15,000 delegates were expected, with student-athletes aged 8 to 15
- PSC commissioner Olivia "Bong" Coo said the games would feature 30 sports, including golf, skateboarding, bowling and baseball, alongside events such as athletics, aquatics, arnis, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, taekwondo, volleyball and wushu
- Bacolod hosted the first Batang Pinoy in 1999, and again in 2001 and 2014
Bacolod is on Negros Island in the Visayas, so a Bislig team has to cover inter-island travel, a full week of meals and lodging, and local transport, which is why the delegation is asking for outside help.
How this connects to the city's cash incentives
Batang Pinoy medals can pay off for Bislig athletes. City Ordinance No. 2026-20, approved on August 18, 2026, gives cash awards to residents who win in sports, academic, skills and talent competitions, and it names the Philippine National Youth Games (Batang Pinoy) among the covered events. For national-level competitions, the ordinance sets P100,000 for gold, P50,000 for silver and P30,000 for bronze for individual winners.
What parents and coaches should know
Families of athletes who may join the delegation should watch for announcements from the city government and the DepEd Schools Division Office of Bislig City on team selection, requirements and travel.
The council has sent copies of the resolution to the Office of the Provincial Governor "for their information and appropriate action." Whether the province approves the full P200,000 will be known closer to December.
