On December 19, 2025, the City Government of Bislig held the blessing ceremony for a new Forest Nursery Building at Villa Josefa, Poblacion, marking another step in the city's environmental program.
What the nursery supports
The building, run by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), is meant to support Bislig's reforestation, greening, and watershed protection programs. A dedicated nursery facility gives the city a base for growing seedlings at scale, whether for barangay-level tree planting drives, watershed rehabilitation, or replacing tree cover lost to development and past logging activity.
Why it fits Bislig's history
Bislig's economy was built for decades on the timber and paper industry through PICOP, which operated in the city from 1963 until it wound down by 2008. A city with that industrial history has a direct stake in watershed and forest management long after the mills stop running, both for flood control and for the long-term health of the land the local economy still depends on.
A new nursery building is a small, practical piece of that larger effort: more seedlings grown locally means more consistent tree planting across the city's barangays over time.
