Public schools in Bislig's Mangagoy-I District host the city's yearly division sports meet, but according to the city council they do not have the facilities to match. The Sangguniang Panlungsod has asked three national and provincial officials to help fund a new multi-sports facility.

Three requests, one project

On June 30, 2026, during its 50th regular session, the council adopted three resolutions:

  • Resolution No. 2026-522 asks Congressman Alexander T. Pimentel of Surigao del Sur's 2nd District to allocate P6,000,000 for the project. It was authored by Councilor Pedrito R. Sulapas.
  • Resolution No. 2026-523 asks Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go to allocate P6,000,000 for the same facility.
  • Resolution No. 2026-524 asks Governor Johnny T. Pimentel of Surigao del Sur for financial support for its construction. Its title does not specify an amount.

All three name the same project: a "Multi-Sports Facility at Mangagoy-I District, Schools Division Office, Bislig City." Asking several officials for the same project is a common way for local councils to improve the chances that at least one source of funds comes through.

Why the council says it is needed

Resolution No. 2026-522 says the Mangagoy-I District "currently lacks adequate sports facilities to serve the educational and recreational needs of students and the community." It describes the existing facilities as "insufficient in number, deteriorating in quality, uncovered and vulnerable to weather conditions, and unable to accommodate multiple sports simultaneously."

It also points out that the Mangagoy-I District oval grounds serve as the venue for the yearly Division Sports and Athletic Meet, which the council says highlights "the critical need for proper sports infrastructure."

What the P6 million would build

According to the resolution, the proposed facility would include courts for basketball, volleyball, sepak takraw and covered badminton, which it says would meet international standards. The project would also add:

  • public restrooms
  • equipment storage
  • a concession area
  • a first aid station
  • parking
  • accessible entrances for persons with disabilities

The estimated total cost of P6 million covers site preparation, construction, equipment, utilities and professional fees. The resolution lists sustainability features such as energy-efficient LED lighting, water-saving fixtures and proper drainage, and it sets out an 11-month timeline from planning to completion.

The council expects the facility to create temporary construction jobs and permanent maintenance positions, and says it could eventually let Bislig host regional sports tournaments.

Where things stand

These are requests, not funded projects. Bislig Today found no public announcement of an allocation from any of the three officials as of this writing. The resolution also does not identify the exact site within the district.

The push fits a broader pattern this year. Bislig's council has also asked the governor to help send a delegation to Batang Pinoy 2026 and passed an ordinance rewarding students and athletes who win medals in DepEd and international competitions.

Parents, coaches and teachers in the Mangagoy-I District who want updates can follow up with the Schools Division Office of Bislig City or with Councilor Sulapas's office at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
